Maria: I expect this from erica, but not from you.

Of course zach is the one who's lying. He would say anything to rip apart me and edmund.

Brooke: Maria, there's something I haven't told you. Edmund and I had a pretty shocking talk right before he died about you and zach.

Brooke: Maria, I'm so sorry. I know how much you've suffered already, and now here I am about to pile on more.

Maria: No, it's unbelievable, actually. It's unbelievable that you're going to buy into zach's lies, too.

Brooke: No, it's about edmund and me. I promised him that I would keep this to myself. But if you've been true to your vows and you've been true to edmund --

maria: No, edmund loved me. Edmund loved me. He is the one who wanted to get back together. What are you -- what would that be about?

Brooke: You and I both know that he -- edmund had a dark side. And in the last few months, he -- he wasn't your husband that you loved, he wasn't the husband that you cherished.

Maria: I can't believe what you're doing. You're slamming the person that I just buried, brooke.

Brooke: The night before the fire -- the night of the fire, I came to the house to do "tempo" business, and edmund was in that dark, brooding place, and he was -- he was raging and he was plotting, and I was trying to reason with him, and he wouldn't hear it. His mind was made up, and nothing was going to change it.

Maria: So just say it. What is it? Please -- just say it.

Brooke: He said he was just staying with you until he could nail zach slater and put him away and then he was going to divorce you.

Brooke: Maria, this all happened accidentally. I heard you tell edmund that you were withdrawing your divorce petition, and later on, I asked him if he was withdrawing his, and the answer was no. He thought that you were cheating on him with zach, and he just wanted to make you both pay -- prison for zach and divorce for you.

Maria: Is that all?

Brooke: He said that was only part of the surprise. Looking back, I think maybe zach was telling the truth and that edmund could walk.

Maria: No, it was not the truth. Edmund couldn't walk. Edmund loved me, and he wanted to be with me. He wanted to have a life with me, brooke. And you want to know the truth? I mean, the truth of it is, really, that you hate me because edmund chose me over you, not once, but twice. He wanted me in his life and he wanted me in his bed, and that -- so you're just making this vicious lie worse because you want to turn me against him, because you wanted to be the only one left loving edmund so you could have him all to yourself, right? Not going to happen. You have lost edmund for the last time.

Brooke: I'm not lying. Edmund told me he was done with you. Hmm. But you know what, maria? You're right about one thing. I do love him, I always will, and I hate you for what you did to him, because these past few months edmund changed.

Maria: Of course he's changed. He was paralyzed. Everything changed.

Brooke: No, it wasn't the paralysis that changed him. He could have overcome that eventually, and maybe he did.

Maria: That was a lie. That is a sick lie.

Brooke: You know why he changed? He changed because of you. He was full of rage and he was plotting and he was angry and he wanted to strike back any way he could because he wanted to be the man that you loved!

Maria: He was!

Brooke: The only man! I mean, my god, he took a bullet in his spine to protect you, and he almost died, but he kept fighting for life, a life with you. Oh. He lost his legs. I mean, it cost him his manhood, but he had a life with you, and he knew with you by his side he could have done anything, he could have overcome anything, he loved you that much, but that wasn't enough for you. You had to bring zach slater into your life! Oh, yeah. You didn't sleep with him, but you know what? You wanted to, and edmund could see it and everybody else could see it, too, so, yeah, maybe you didn't cheat on him, but in your heart you betrayed him and you betrayed your marriage.

Maria: You don't know a damn thing about what went on in my house or inside my marriage.

Brooke: I know you didn't kill edmund and probably zach slater didn't, either, but all the same, he died because of you. All that love and you turned it into hate, and it destroyed him, and the only thing he could think of was getting back at you and zach. And it overcame him. And in the end, he paid for it with his life.

So, yes, you are right. I am the only one left loving edmund, because you don't love him. You haven't loved him for a long time. You just haven't had the guts to admit it.
